1. How did you feel about your final monologue? What were you proud of? What was the most challenging aspect? 5 sentences
Overall I felt good about my final monologue. It was really interesting to create my own story and jump into the headspace of that character. I think the most challenging aspect of completing this monologue was really not being in the classroom, unfortunately. Being able to bounce ideas off one another was one of my favorite parts of our time together and definitely made me more confident in the work I was doing. This plus a lack of experience created a challenge, but still, I think I did well given the circumstances!
2. What was the most difficult part of your journey in this class? How do you feel about your ability to meet that challenge? 3 sentences
The most difficult part of my journey was getting out of my comfort zone. I started dancing when I was young, and although I never found being on stage scary this was much different. I think that it really takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable and try new things in front of a group of people. Rising to this challenge proved to be beneficial as I feel more confident speaking in front of groups of people now.
3. What words of advice would you offer to a person signing up for this class? 3 sentences
I would tell a person signing up for this class to give it their all. Don't be afraid to get invested, and most importantly don't be afraid to make bold choices. This might not be your major but you will still learn so much. This class is a safe place for self-expression and personal growth, take advantage of it.
Jillian,
I am so grateful for your work this semester. I truly loved the piece you created for your final monologue. It was brave and truthful and special; all words I would also use to describe you as a person. I really wish we had been able to finish the semester together in the classroom. I think you are so spot on; your fellow acting students bring so much to the room. Collaboration and feedback and group brainstorming are all essential aspects of performing. I am so heartbroken that you were robbed of the full experience. But I am thankful to have had the chance to see you create your own work.
I wish you the very best. I know that your bravery and your compassion will serve you well. The world will be a better place as you become a leader in your community and your field. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you.
