1. How did you feel about your final monologue? What were you proud of? What was the most challenging aspect?
I felt pretty good about my final monologue, although it definitely did take me a few tries to get it down. I was proud of the character I created because I thought I gave him a good backstory based off of my baseball dreams as a kid. I tried to create a realistic situation that many baseball players and athletes in general are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I think i did it well with the character and made him come across as honest. The most challenging part was probably working the verbs and tactics in the monologue instead of just talking, so I tried to make him determined, confident, and persuasive in letting the fans know that he'll be playing his best and will keep working his butt off for them. So it was a bit challenging, but I was proud of it.
2. What was the most difficult part of your journey in this class? How do you feel about your ability to meet that challenge?
I think the most difficult part of the journey in this class was definitely not being able to meet right after our midterms. I feel like meeting in person was very important with acting, and it was definitely harder to portray the verb acting without and audience and direct feedback right in front of you. Although we did our best online, I think meeting in person definitely would have helped the difficulty of acting in a positive way. Overall though I was confident with what we learned while we were in class, and I think myself and pretty much everyone in the. class met the challenge and did a great job.
3. What words of advice would you offer to a person signing up for this class?
Then words of advice I'd offer to anyone taking this class would be to go into it with a positive, and open attitude. If you go into a course like this all shy and withdrawn, I don't think you'll get much out of it. But like most people in our class, we wanted to learn and all tried our best in class and with our scenes, so i think our class made for a great environment for learning acting. So again my advice would be to want to go to this class, if you have a good attitude, you'll learn a lot about acting which is a great skill for anyone to have in life.
I think you are exactly right about your final monologue; you created an honest and engaging character. I really empathized with him even though I have never watched a baseball game or even gave much thought to how difficult things are for the players. I think you also showed some great ingenuity in creating a character that was specific to your personal dreams but also resonated with the world around us. That was very special.
I do wish we could have finished the semester together; this was a real challenge I know. It is hard to not have your fellow acting students with you in the room to learn with and to learn from. I missed this class very much. But I was also so proud to see the work that you all made.
I am also glad that you came back. I was worried about you and I missed seeing your work. I was really overjoyed when I saw your first post. Thank you for being brave enough to come back and jump right in.
