1. How did you feel about your final monologue? What were you proud of? What was the most challenging aspect? 5 sentences.
I felt like my final monologue went alright, considering that it the objective for Mel was stared in a clear way to her parents. Using a combination of the urgent tone in her voice and explaining how the program worked, it all went accordingly as planned! The most challenging aspect about this monologue was what the topic should be about surprisingly. Like, this character that I’ve been using is a part of a more fantasy-based story, so some aspects/given circumstances that I wanted to apply in the monologues wouldn’t work out as well without having previous content or knowledge of the world. The part I was proud of was the explanation part - when Mel really went for trying to sell this idea to her parents. By having the understanding that the money they’re spending is valuable, it helps her to become more financially aware of her surroundings.
2. What was the most difficult part of your journey in this class? How do you feel about your ability to meet that challenge? 3 sentences.
The most difficult part in this class would’ve been the memorization of lines. Because we couldn’t add or take out any words from the script (particularly during midterm), it was hard. I feel like my ability to meet that challenge turned out a lot better than expected, and taught me to have more confidence in myself in order to work the roles well!
3. What words of advice would you offer to a person signing up for this class? 3 sentences.
The words of advice I would give to a person signing up for this class are to have fun with the acting and not to be nervous about it. If you try to be a complete perfectionist with the lines, other things like the tone or behavior of the character would suffer. Also, being nervous would only stress you out even more, so don’t psyche yourself out like that! You got this!!
Brianna,
I love that you used a character from a fantasy-game for this assignment. I think that was a really great idea because it gave you a lot to work with but also challenged you to find the parts of her world that were useful but also the parts that were not. I agree with you that the part where she was trying to sell her parents on the idea was the most exciting moment in a very successful monologue. I really was moved by the difficult position she was in. It was super engaging and super exciting.
It has been really great to watch you become more comfortable and confident with the work this semester. You are such a bright and fun person that is was a real joy to see that manifest in your work. I hope you are feeling proud of your journey because you should be.
I wish you the best of luck going forward; I know you have a bright and amazing path ahead of you and I feel lucky to have been here for a small part of it.
