So let's start out with some simple given circumstances!
Remember the Monologue characters from last week? The given circumstances for the Saleswoman include:
She is in her home, she is married and her husband helps her with her videos, she is probably in the North East since she references Cherry Hill. She is struggling financially and was hoping to be able to support herself so she probably does not have a full-time job. She has a boss who calls her everyday. She needs to recruit more workers. She wants to feel connected. She is probably pretty low status
Or the Painter; he normally lives in NYC. He is somewhere quiet and in a studio. He was given money to focus on his painting. He is educated as he references different important painters. He has not been sleeping well and is having trouble painting recently. He is anxious about the state of the environment. He has a medium to high status as he has been awarded this opportunity.
Let's think about your character. Who are you?
1. Where are they physically? one sentence at least
2. How do they spend their time/ what is their job? one sentence at least
3. What is important to them? one sentence at least
4. What are they anxious/worried about? one sentence at least
5. What are five other Given Circumstances about them? Age/education/health level/economic level/ status/ favorite hobby/family set up/physical fitness/ anything at all from their past? Be specific and creative!
BUT KEEP IT REAL! I don't mind if the character is very close to who you are a real person. I don't mind if they are very different. I don't mind if they are in a more fantastical/ sci-fi situation, like the Online Monologue guy who was on the porch. But they must be human. Think about things that are on your mind right now and draw from that. Or use the play you read or one of the online monologues you watched for inspiration.
Answer the Five Questions above as a written post. You can title as something about the person you are making. It is due by Monday April 13th at 11:59
