1. What obstacle is your character facing? Again, keep it focused on the person you are speaking to. 3 sentences.
The obstacle that my character is facing is homesickness. Being a caring and family-oriented individual, she can't help but think about how they'd usually be there to comfort and help her. From the moment she decided on studying abroad, she knew that living alone in a new country without her family would be the biggest obstacle for her in Italy.
2. What will be the consequence if your character does not get what they want? What is at stake? 3 sentences.
The consequences that my character would endure if they don't get what they want is not fulfilling her own potential. Mel knows that with the right resources that she can become the best chemist that she can truly be. That and feeling internal guilt for wasting her parents' money that they saved up for her tuition if she were to fail terribly. Going to school abroad is expensive, and it's not like she can afford her own apartment and say that she lives there.
I really love the idea that she is reliant on her family both emotionally but also financially. That adds some lovely complexity to the character. Very nice. I love the tension between her desire to be family-oriented but also career-minded. Guilt can be such a powerful force - both for characters and for ourselves as individuals. Great job digging deep into the character.
