How did you feel about your final monologue? What were you proud of? What was the most challenging aspect?
I felt as though my monologue was great, but not the best. I displayed a sort of 'defeated' tone during the video, which made me feel like I didn't put any emotion into it and describe a lot of the verbs I was thinking of portraying. Yet, it still came out clean in my eyes. Which , ironically, is what I'm proud of. Even though it sounds dragging in tone, that's kind of how it was supposed to be, give off that feeling of defeat. As stated, the most challenging of this monologue was portraying the right verbs, along with preparing the monologue structure.
What was the most difficult part of your journey in this class? How do you feel about your ability to meet that challenge?
In my eyes, thinking of creative and more dynamic verbs was a difficult one. I had no issue with how I could act and perform in front of people nor a camera, but finding the right attitude and tone could mean big changes to the scene I'm playing. Overall, I did improve from day 1, but it's not the greatest. I still had fun nonetheless!
What words of advice would you offer to a person signing up for this class?
If you're nervous about acting in front of people, just breathe. Everyone is probably just as nervous as you are and won't judge at all. Learn to let loose and have fun with this class. It was perfect for stress relief too after other challenging courses. "The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul." - Dieter Uchtdorf
Mathew,
I think you are selling yourself a little short here. I think your final monologue went incredibly well. You gave yourself a challenging character but then met that challenge. I would even use the phrase "with flying colors" to describe your success! I did not find it dragging at all, rather I thought it was subtle and sophisticated.
Plus I loved the story.
It was really such a pleasure to meet you this semester. You are such a smart and quizzical person. I admired the way that you really worked hard at your scenes but also tried to allow some fun and adventure into the work. That can be very difficult for people; to allow it to not be perfect - so to speak. There is something better than perfect.
I wish you the very best moving forward. It makes me feel a little hopeful to know young people like you will be coming into this strange new world with ingenuity and passion. The world will be a better place for it.
